Dora - the talent show dog

She was abandoned in the public shelter last spring. We got her out just before a free spay/neuter campaign, we spayed and the freed her on the streets of Moreni; we had absolutely no room in Happy Paws for her and we were having problems with one of our "intelligent" neighbors at that time. Marilena would go feed her every day, but she was very unhappy and refused to eat; soon, she became even thinner than before. It was obvious to us she was a dog with an owner and she would not resist alone on the streets, because she desperately needed to feel she belonged somewhere. I have no idea why the owner didn't see the obvious...he must have not cared at all about her life...she was, after all, "just a dog".

This is all we have to offer at first, but she was so happy to be someone's dog

All her gestures showed a completely happy and grateful dog. She would appreciate every meal, needless to say her appetite grew, she would never fuss about anything, we let her run free twice a day, but never once did she complain about having to go back to be chained. She was always a loving girl; she thanked us every day for rescuing her and giving her a home.

At first, she was a bit unsure of herself, felt like she didn't had the same status as the rest of the dogs, although we treat everyone the same. It's like she knew we had to make a bit of an effort to take her in and she wanted to show her apreciation. Dora is a loving, modest and very understanding girl. All the more reasons for us to think her owner is a crazy person to abandon such a beautiful, sweet natured girl in the public shelter. She is definitely better off without such an undeserving "person". Good riddance!

Now she is more confident and shares the space with Pepper, from which she "borrowed" a few bad habitts, barking at other dogs in HP being the worst. But Dora is still a very sweet girl and very talented. Whenever I go take her picture, she really makes sure my photos are special. She somehow knows how to pose :)

I rest my case! :))

Dora is a 5 years old girl, spayed, medium size. She if friendly to other dogs, but not with cats. She is an obedient girl, playful and loving who would love nothing more than to give her big heart to someone. She knows she was born to love people, but for some reason, she was denied that so far. We all love her dearly at Happy Paws, but are aware this is only a temporary home for her. Dora is available for adoption.

Mura - the sweet "blackberry"

My cousin found Mura abandoned on a field as a very small and sick puppy. She was under 2 months old, crawling alone, with no food, water or shelter. Her back legs weren't moving for some reason, he tought Mura was paralyzed. He kept her for a while, but the foster family couldn't keep her, so he brought her to Happy Paws. She was very shy and strange looking. No one saw her for a day or two, she kept hidding in the back of the doggie house or even behind it. Happy Paws was too noisy for her.

Very fearful, didn't trust anyone, people or dogs

After a few weeks, she bacame friendly with us, she enjoyed cuddles and she played with the other dogs. But she was always a shy girl. Her front legs were a bit crooked, we assumed the reason was her malnutrition and poor level of calcium. We gave her some, to help her, but she also took matters into her own hands. She found some rock that we use in construction that is also known to have a lot of calcium in it. She would chew on the rock (softer then an usual one) every day; we thought it was weird at that time and often took it away from her, but she was very determined. Mura knew what she was doing, her legs are perfect now. She grew up to be a beautiful young dog.

Soon we had to move her to a bigger kennel; we had no idea she would grow into a big, gentle beauty.

She was always a submissive, shy, gentle girl. And she became very camera shy; I would have to come up with tricks to actually take a photo of her. As soon as she saw me holding the camera and poiting it to her, she would find the nearest place to hide and stay there.

Ops! She's taking photos again!!

She loves to be cuddled; she is a gentle teddy bear who would enjoy a family of her own. She did have this incredible luck to be saved, when people gave her the death penalty just for being born; such a luck deserves a happy ending, don't you think?

Recently, she decided she does need a loving home, I mean she really comitts to this plan. Why else would she be so willing to have her picture taken all of a sudden? She is around one year old, spayed, very sweet natured and well behaved, loving to people and kind to other dogs (as long as they don't stepp on her paws, as she recently also descovered her size; she is not aggressive, but will put a overeager dog into his/her place). She is available for adoption.

Nico - champion of cleaning food bowls

Nico was brought to Happy Paws last summer as a young puppy, along with his sister; sadly, she died. But Nico seemed to have an amazing wish to live, he would always eat other dogs' food. Of course he was helped by his small size, so he would walk around all the kennels and checked everyone's food bowls. Strangely, all dogs accepted him.

No fence could stop his appetite

He became very attached to Sayouri, now they are practicaly inseparable. Nico still has a big appetite, but the other dogs are not so happy to indulge his bad habbit of cleaning their food bowls. Red, who is our teacher for young male dogs, struggles to show him some good manners.

We tried putting him in a kennel, but he complains a lot, so he runs free with Sayouri (next to him in the picture), Linda (next to Sayouri) and Mura, the black one in the back. Keeping them from attacking one another's food bowls can be tricky.

Nico misses the time he was a tiny puppy a lot and still tries to go throught the fence; obviously, it's impossible...but trying didn't hurt anyone before, did it?

Oh, childhood!

Nico is a 9 months old young male, neutered, friendly especially to female dogs, playful and loving. He does think ALL the food is his, but he is a sweet natured, handsome boy. Nico is available for adoption.

Beautiful Sayouri, never too far away
